Embedding
A list of numbers representing a piece of text, arranged so that similar meanings land near each other.
Also written: embeddings, vector.
An embedding model turns a piece of text into a few hundred or few thousand numbers, chosen so that texts with similar meanings produce similar lists. That makes it possible to search by meaning rather than by keyword: “how do I cancel” can find a document titled “ending your subscription”.
Embeddings are priced per token like everything else, but far more cheaply, and they are excluded from this site’s price table because they are a different kind of product measured a different way.
